New Bases Target China And Russia In Strategic Region
The United States, Denmark, and Greenland have signed a defence pact that allows the US to expand and modernise its Pituffik Space Force Base in northwestern Greenland. The agreement also paves the way for the establishment of two new military bases in Narsarsuaq and Mestersvig, subject to approval from Greenland and Denmark. The move is seen as a strategic effort to counter the growing influence of China and Russia in the Arctic region. According to the South China Morning Post, the deal updates and amends a 1951 defence agreement between Denmark and the US.
