The UK is launching a new military space squadron, the No III Space Effects Squadron, to counter hostile threats in space and protect critical infrastructure. The initiative is part of a £7.8 billion government strategy to enhance national deterrence and boost the UK space sector. The squadron will safeguard satellites vital for defense communications, maritime navigation, and missile early-warning systems. SaxaVord Spaceport in Shetland will also receive £30 million in support to help boost satellite launch capabilities, as reported by The Independent.
