Britain Expands Space Capabilities To Counter Enemy Threats
The UK has launched a new space squadron focused on countering enemy threats and defending local interests. The squadron, known as No. 3 SES, will disrupt, degrade, and deny hostile activity, according to UK Chief of the Air Staff Harv Smyth. The announcement comes as the UK plans to spend £9 billion on new space capabilities from 2030 to 2035, with a focus on satellite communications and space-based Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance. The UK-US-Australia Deep Space Advanced Radar Capability program is a key part of Britain’s space capacity, providing 360-degree coverage of the sky.
