Defence Secretary Calls for Restructuring to Improve Delivery Timelines
The Indian defence establishment is pushing the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to narrow its project portfolio and give private companies a larger role in developing, testing, and manufacturing military equipment. The proposed restructuring aims to improve delivery timelines, strengthen accountability, and enable India’s private defence industry to participate more deeply in research, development, and production. According to the defence secretary, DRDO’s project portfolio could be limited to about 10 priority programmes, allowing the organisation to focus on advanced and high-risk technologies.
