European Union Seeks Strategic Sovereignty in Space
The European Union is prioritizing the development of its space defense market as part of its efforts to increase its presence in space and reduce dependence on foreign actors. According to European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius, the EU cannot fall behind in the global space race, with around 50,000 satellites expected to be launched worldwide in the next decade. The EU seeks to achieve strategic sovereignty through greater public and private investment in space capabilities, including the development of reusable rockets.
