The European Union has taken a crucial step in addressing its military shortcomings by approving the first five European Defence Projects of Common Interest (EDPCI). These initiatives cover a range of critical capabilities, including drones, counter-drone systems, air and missile defence, and maritime surveillance. With potential investments worth hundreds of billions of euros over the next two decades, these projects could significantly enhance European military capabilities and the continent’s defence technological and industrial base.
