Aviation Minister Announces Plans For New Route Amid Growing Trade Ties
The government of Bangladesh is working to launch direct flights between Dhaka and New York next year, according to Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat. Securing Category 1 status under the US Federal Aviation Administration’s International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) is crucial for operating direct commercial flights to the US. The minister discussed aviation cooperation, aircraft procurement, and tourism with US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen, who assured Bangladesh of all possible cooperation in launching the route. Biman Bangladesh Airlines is also expanding its fleet with 14 new Boeing aircraft, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2026. The development was first reported by The Daily Star.
