Federal Grant Supports Domestic Manufacturing of High-Energy-Density Cells
Amprius Technologies has been awarded a federal grant of up to $75 million to expand US production of high-energy-density batteries for unmanned aerial systems. The grant will support the conversion of an existing electric vehicle battery production line in the US, with the goal of producing 12 million cells per year. The project aims to establish a domestic source of batteries for defense drone manufacturers, meeting requirements under the National Defense Authorization Act. According to DRONELIFE, the investment is part of the US Department of War’s Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment program.
