Regulator Aims to Bring 400,000 Drones Under Unified Regulatory Regime
Malaysia is preparing to introduce a unified regulatory framework for unmanned aircraft, aiming to bring an estimated 400,000 drones under a single regime. The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) is leading the effort, with a public consultation paper released for feedback. The framework is expected to pave the way for the introduction of advanced air mobility vehicles, such as electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and air taxis, into civilian airspace. According to The Edge Malaysia Weekly, CAAM’s CEO Datuk Captain Norazman Mahmud emphasized the importance of a comprehensive framework that supports a broader aviation ecosystem.
