Rome Expands Military Presence in Middle East with Air Defense Systems
Italy has deployed approximately 700 military personnel to the Gulf region to support partner nations in countering Iranian attacks, with the mission entering the public spotlight and drawing criticism from opposition parties. The deployment, which includes air and land components, aims to provide air surveillance and defense capabilities, and has been defended by the Italian government as authorized under a parliamentary resolution adopted in March. The Italian Ministry of Defense has disclosed the presence of two task forces, including Task Force Arabia and Task Group Kuwait, which are equipped with advanced military capabilities such as Eurofighters and the Leonardo-made ACUS-E anti-drone system.
