Kyiv Secures Advanced Fighter Jets Amid Ongoing Conflict
Ukraine has signed a $2.5 billion contract with Sweden for the delivery of 16 Gripen E fighter jets, with the first aircraft expected to arrive in early 2029. The agreement, financed through an EU loan with UK support, also includes spare parts and technical assistance. Ukrainian pilots are already undergoing training in Sweden, and the country is set to receive 16 Gripen C/D jets in 2027 as military aid. The deal marks a significant step in Ukraine’s plans to acquire up to 150 advanced combat jets in the long term, according to a statement from Swedish Minister of Defense Pål Jonson.
