Advancing Weather Science Through Commercial Satellite Data
NASA and NOAA are set to host a joint session at the 23rd Symposium on Operational Environmental Satellite Systems, focusing on the use of commercial satellite data for weather research and forecasting. The session, part of the 2027 American Meteorological Society Annual Meeting, will examine the growing capabilities of commercial Earth observation providers and their potential to advance weather science. According to NASA, the partnership between the agency’s Commercial Satellite Data Acquisition program and NOAA’s National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service Commercial Data Program aims to expand federal access to commercial satellite data and accelerate its use in research and operational applications, as reported by NASA Science.
