France's Extended Deterrence Initiative Gains Momentum In Europe
The number of deployed nuclear warheads worldwide has increased over the past year, according to a report by the Swedish think tank SIPRI. The expansion comes as Europe wrestles with its own nuclear future amidst a French plan that is drawing interest from nine countries, most recently Norway. The report found that as many as 2,200 warheads were kept on high operational alert as of January this year, an increase of up to 100 from the previous year. This development was first reported by Breaking Defense.
