Global Airline Industry Faces Challenging Times Ahead
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has predicted a dramatic drop in airline profits, with the industry’s net profit forecast halved to $23 billion. Rising fuel costs, driven by a 70% increase in jet fuel prices, are expected to have a significant impact on airline finances. Despite these challenges, passenger traffic is still expected to grow by 2.1% in 2026. IATA’s Director General Willie Walsh criticized engine manufacturers for their high profits and failure to deliver reliable engines, according to a report by Aviation Week.
