No Penalties for Airline After Software Crash
The Department of Transportation has concluded its investigation into Delta Air Lines’ 2024 operational meltdown, which was caused by a software update from cybersecurity provider CrowdStrike. The DOT found that Delta provided prompt refunds, adequate baggage assistance, and appropriate assistance for passengers with disabilities, and therefore did not impose any penalties. The incident resulted in the cancellation of approximately 7,000 flights and the delay of more than 10,000 over the course of five days. According to Travel Weekly, Delta’s lawsuit against CrowdStrike is ongoing.
