Unmanned Vessels Enhance Maritime Domain Awareness
The US Coast Guard is deploying over a dozen Saildrone Voyager unmanned surface vessels to the Great Lakes and the North Atlantic region to bolster maritime domain awareness. The vessels will support border security operations and counter illegal fishing, with the ability to remain at sea for roughly 100 days. The initiative, which stems from a $15.5 million contract, aims to close visibility gaps and allow Coast Guard personnel to focus on high-priority missions. The deployment was first reported by Breaking Defense.
