Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System Demonstrated On Unmanned Aircraft
The United States Air Force (USAF) has conducted flight tests of the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) using a MQ-9A Reaper, demonstrating the system’s capabilities in a series of shot profiles, including aerial targets. The tests, which took place at the Nevada Test and Training Range, were conducted in collaboration with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) and featured the successful execution of laser-guided rockets. The APKWS system, developed by BAE Systems, is designed to provide affordable surgical-strike capability to various platforms. According to GA-ASI President David R. Alexander, the integration of APKWS with the MQ-9A underscores the potential for government and industry collaboration to rapidly develop and deploy new capabilities. The testing was first reported by AeroTime.
