Space Force Faces Capacity Crunch Amid Rising Launch Demand
The US Department of the Air Force has completed a study indicating that a new space launch facility is likely required to address the current capacity crunch at Vandenberg SFB and Cape Canaveral. According to Air Force Secretary Troy Meink, the study suggests that an additional site capable of heavy and super heavy launch capability is probably needed. The Space Force is anticipating a significant increase in launch demand, with 1,000 missions planned between FY2027 and FY2031, and commercial demand potentially reaching 7,000 launches annually by 2030.
