Bern Weighs Scrapping Air Defense Deal As Costs Could Double
Switzerland is considering abandoning its order of five Raytheon Patriot air defense systems due to substantial cost overruns, with the total bill potentially doubling. The Swiss defense procurement agency Armasuisse has warned of overruns above 50%, and deliveries have been delayed to 2034. The Swiss government is now reviewing alternative European air defense systems, including the Franco-Italian SAMP/T NG. According to AeroTime, the decision to abandon the Patriot order is under active consideration, with a final decision expected by June 2026.
