Next Generation Space Domain Awareness Program Expands
The Space Force has announced a significant increase in the contract ceiling for its Andromeda space monitoring satellites, bringing the total to $6.2 billion. The program, which aims to replace the current Geosynchronous Space Situational Awareness Program (GSSAP) neighborhood watch satellites, will feature a new constellation called RG-XX, comprising smaller, lower-cost commercial satellites with enhanced mobility and refueling capabilities. The contract also includes funding for a future replacement of the classified SILENTBARKER space surveillance constellation. The Space Force’s budget documents reveal plans for a phased launch of the RG-XX constellation, with the first set of satellites scheduled for launch in early FY29. This development was first reported by Breaking Defense.
