New Military Communications System to Enhance Data Transport
The U.S. Space Force has awarded a $2.29 billion contract to SpaceX to build a new satellite communications system, intended to provide faster and more resilient data transport for the Joint Force. The system, known as the Space Data Network (SDN) Backbone, will consist of a large constellation of satellites in low-Earth orbit, working together to move large amounts of data quickly between military units and command centers. The contract requires SpaceX to deliver a fully operational prototype by the end of 2027. This development was reported by Military.com.
