COSMOS Satellites Get Within 10 Feet Of Each Other In Orbit
Two Russian satellites, COSMOS 2581 and COSMOS 2583, have demonstrated a high level of sophistication in orbital maneuvering by getting within 10 feet of each other in low Earth orbit. According to COMSPOC, a space situational awareness company, the satellites performed several fine maneuvers to maintain this tight configuration. This capability may have implications for space-based surveillance and reconnaissance, and was reported by Space.com.
