Indian Conglomerate Enters Low-Earth Orbit Market
Reliance Industries is exploring an entry into the low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communications sector, with the project spearheaded by Chairman Mukesh Ambani and managed by subsidiary Jio Platforms. The company has started work with the Department of Telecommunications on filing for orbital slots at the ITU and is exploring inorganic growth options. This development could put Reliance in direct competition with players like Amazon Leo and Elon Musk’s SpaceX. According to a report by the Economic Times, Reliance’s move into LEO satcom may allow it to address both sides of the market, offering GEO-based business solutions as well as LEO-based broadband for the general consumer.
