Australia Boosts Naval Defense With Proven Ship Self-Defense System
Raytheon has been awarded a contract to supply its SeaRAM ship self-defense system to Australia’s Improved Mogami-class frigates, which are being built under the country’s Project SEA3000 General Purpose Frigate program. The contract was awarded by Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, which is building the first three frigates. Raytheon will provide SeaRAM launchers, technical services, and support for installation and systems testing. The SeaRAM system combines the Phalanx Close In Weapon System with the Rolling Airframe Missile to provide autonomous terminal defense against advanced airborne threats. According to Breaking Defense, the contract is expected to begin deliveries in late 2028.
