EU-Backed Loans Fund Infantry Vehicles and Howitzers
The Polish Ministry of National Defence has awarded contracts worth around $16.5 billion to local defense companies for the purchase of heavy army weapons, including infantry fighting vehicles and self-propelled howitzers. The acquisitions are being funded by the European Union’s SAFE low-cost loan program. According to Defense News, the purchases are part of Poland’s efforts to build up its defense capabilities and boost its domestic defense industry’s production capacities for export sales.
