New Providers Join Intelligence Gathering Efforts
The National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) has awarded three new contracts to providers of commercial satellite data, including Canadian startup Earth Daily, ICEYE, and Indian startup Pixxel. The contracts, awarded under the agency’s Commercial Solutions Opening (CSO) contract vehicle, cover various types of imagery, including electro-optical, RF geo-location, and hyperspectral. NRO’s head of Commercial Systems Program Office, Pete Muend, expressed enthusiasm for the new partnerships, noting the potential for growth and value in the commercial satellite data market. The awards were announced at the US Geospatial Intelligence Foundation’s annual GEOINT Symposium, as reported by Breaking Defense.
