European-Chinese Mission to Investigate Solar Storm Impacts
A new joint European-Chinese spacecraft, SMILE, is set to launch to investigate the impact of solar storms on Earth’s magnetic shield. The spacecraft will make the first-ever X-ray observations of Earth’s magnetic field, aiming to improve understanding of space weather and its effects on satellites, power grids, and auroras. SMILE will observe key regions, including the magnetopause and polar areas, over a three-year period. The mission was reported by Phys.org.
