New Initiative Aims to Reduce Flight Delays and Ease Controller Workloads
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is exploring the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to manage air traffic, with the goal of reducing flight delays and easing the workload of air traffic controllers. The project, called Strategic Management of Airspace Routing Trajectories (SMART), aims to harness data and AI to better manage airspace demand and capacity, according to Thales and Air Space Intelligence, two of the vendors involved in the initiative. The FAA plans to award a contract for the project soon, as reported by Politico.
