Tri-Nation Pact Accelerates Submarine Plan And Underwater Drone Capabilities
The AUKUS pact members have signed an agreement to jointly develop technologies for Uncrewed Underwater Vessels (UUVs), marking the first project under Pillar 2 of the partnership. The agreement will see the development of payloads such as sensors and weapons systems that can be deployed across all three nations’ UUV fleets. The first deliveries of these payloads are expected to begin in 2027. The project aims to enhance AUKUS partners’ ability to protect critical national seabed infrastructure and deploy cutting-edge surveillance and strike capabilities. According to a joint statement, the project will also increase AUKUS interoperability through shared standards and common control systems. This development was first reported by Breaking Defense.
