Boeing’s Carrier-Based Unmanned Aircraft Takes Significant Step Forward
The US Navy’s first production-representative Boeing MQ-25 Stingray has completed its maiden flight, marking a significant step toward fielding the service’s first carrier-based unmanned aircraft. The flight, which took place on April 25, 2026, at MidAmerica St. Louis Airport in Illinois, follows an extended ground test phase and introduces several modifications compared to the T1 demonstrator. The US Navy is targeting Initial Operational Capability in fiscal year 2027, with the MQ-25 expected to take over aerial refueling duties currently performed by F/A-18E/F Super Hornets. The development was first reported by AeroTime.
