US Navy Tests JDAM Long Range Variant

New Standoff Strike Option Demonstrated In 200 Nautical Mile Flights

The US Navy has successfully demonstrated the Joint Direct Attack Munition Long Range (JDAM LR) variant in two test flights covering approximately 200 nautical miles. The tests aimed to validate safe separation, compatibility with existing aircraft interfaces, and controlled navigation to the target. According to Captain Sarah Abbott, Program Manager for Precision Strike Weapons, the new capability will allow pilots to engage targets from significantly safer distances in contested environments. The JDAM LR is a Boeing product that builds on the widely fielded JDAM guidance kit by adding a turbojet engine and wing set. This development was first reported by AeroTime.
