Next Generation Tiltrotor Honors Native American Tribes
The US Army has officially named its next-generation tiltrotor, the Bell MV-75, as the Cheyenne II, honoring the Northern Cheyenne Tribe and the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes. The aircraft is part of the Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft program, designed to replace the UH-60 Black Hawk fleet. The MV-75 is expected to deliver significant improvements in speed and range, with a combat radius roughly double that of the UH-60. The US Army selected the tiltrotor over the Sikorsky-Boeing SB-1 Defiant compound helicopter in December 2022, with an initial $1.3 billion development award. This development was first reported by AeroTime.
