UK Uncovers Secret Russian Submarine Mission

British Waters Threatened By Undersea Cable Sabotage Attempt

The UK has revealed a secret Russian submarine mission in British waters, which threatened undersea cables and pipelines. According to British Defense Secretary John Healey, the mission involved an Akula-class and a pair of Main Directorate for Deep Sea Research (GUGI) surveillance submarines. Healey stated that there was no evidence of damage, but warned of serious consequences if Moscow attempts to sabotage subsea infrastructure. The UK tracked the submarines with the help of allies, including Norway, and deployed Royal Air Force P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft and Royal Navy Type 23 frigate HMS St Albans.
