Troubled Program Terminated Due To Insurmountable Challenges
The Space Force has cancelled the Next Generation Operational Control System (OCX) contract, a troubled program that aimed to develop a new ground control system for GPS satellites. The cancellation was due to ‘insurmountable’ challenges and risks, with officials determining that the program was unable to deliver needed capabilities on an operationally relevant timeline. The Space Force will instead enhance the current GPS control system, with Lockheed Martin recently awarded a $105 million contract for related work. The cancellation was first reported by Breaking Defense.
