Lockheed Martin Wins Protracted Fighter Competition Amid Political Turmoil
The Government of Peru has confirmed the purchase of 12 new F-16 Block 70 fighter aircraft from Lockheed Martin, following a protracted competition that saw the country initially prefer the Saab Gripen E/F. The $3.42 billion deal includes 10 F-16C and two F-16D Block 70 aircraft, as well as associated equipment and training. The selection reflects the aircraft’s operational performance and combat record, and is expected to strengthen industrial ties between the US and Peru. According to AeroTime, the Peruvian Air Force will replace its aging Mirage 2000P and MiG-29 fleets with the new F-16s.
