Navy Faces Challenges in Meeting Ambitious Delivery Target for New Submarine Class
The Pentagon’s submarine czar, Vice Adm. Robert Gaucher, has stated that delivering the first Columbia-class submarine by 2028 will be a ‘wicked heavy lift.’ The Navy is working to address supplier issues and construction challenges, with an acceleration plan in place to deliver all modules by the end of 2025. The program’s success is crucial for the Navy’s submarine fleet, and the service is prioritizing long-term success over meeting the ambitious delivery target. The comments were made at the Sea Air Space Exposition and reported by Breaking Defense.
