Northrop Grumman and three artificial intelligence firms have successfully demonstrated the ability to swap AI control of an aircraft mid-flight, showcasing unprecedented flexibility for future military operations. The Talon IQ testbed, a modified Scaled Composite’s Vanguard Model 437, utilized a layered and modular open architecture to enable seamless handovers between different AI systems. The recent flight tests, which involved Shield AI, Accelint, and Applied Intuition, highlight the potential for rapid deployment of AI capabilities across various platforms.
