New Precision Strike Capability for Dismounted Infantry Squads
The US Marine Corps plans to officially start fielding its new Organic Precision Fires-Light (OPF-L) capability to operational units in the June timeframe, according to Col. Bradley Sams, program manager of Ground Weapons Systems. The OPF-L system, designed to provide dismounted Marine infantry squads with easily portable precision strike capabilities, has been in testing with units at Dugway Proving Grounds. The Marines have awarded contracts to Anduril, Aerovironment, and Teledyne for the delivery of OPF-L systems, with Anduril and Teledyne receiving follow-on contracts for over 600 systems each. The Marines are also exploring a medium variant, OPF-M, with a request for white papers posted last week. This development was first reported by Breaking Defense.
