Marine Corps Begins Early Work On Next Generation Fighter Jet
The Marine Corps has begun exploring concepts for a sixth-generation fighter jet, with the goal of potentially augmenting its fifth-gen force. According to Lt. Gen. William Swan, the Marine Corps’ deputy commandant for aviation, the new fighter may resemble the Navy’s F/A-XX program, given the Corps’ role in flying off carriers. The decision on the sixth-gen fighter is expected to be made in 5-10 years, with the Corps currently focusing on achieving an all Block 4 F-35 fleet. The development was reported by Breaking Defense.
