New Shipping Segment Emerges to Support Carbon Capture
A new segment of shipping, purpose-built CO2 carriers, is emerging to support carbon capture and storage (CCS) efforts. Northern Lights, a partnership between Equinor, Shell, and TotalEnergies, has started commercial operations and plans to expand capacity to 5 million tonnes per year by 2028. Other companies, such as Royal Warenborg and Shin Kurushima Sanoyasu Shipbuilding, are also developing CO2 carrier concepts. This development was reported by The Maritime Executive.
