WW2 B-17 Bomber Wreckage Found in North Sea

Energy Firm Discovers Historic Aircraft During Routine Survey

A World War Two B-17 bomber wreckage has been discovered in the North Sea by German electricity firm Amprion during a routine unexploded ordinance survey. The US Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency is helping lead search efforts, with the assistance of Rheinmetall subsidiary Rheinmetall Project Solutions. The wreckage was located around 260 meters from the center of a planned converter platform, part of an important energy transition project in Germany. The discovery was made possible through the use of an electro magnetometer, which mapped the location and extent of the wreckage. According to AeroTime, the evaluation of further findings and data for the ongoing identification of the B-17 bomber and the question of possible human remains is currently underway.
