Qantas Agrees to $74 Million Settlement Over COVID-19 Flight Credits

Australian Carrier Compensates Customers for Cancelled Flights

Qantas has agreed to pay a $74 million settlement to customers who received travel credits instead of cash refunds for cancelled flights during the COVID-19 pandemic. The settlement covers flights between January 1, 2020, and November 1, 2022. Qantas removed the expiry date on flight credits in August 2023. The settlement amount will be paid to a Court-approved administrator, according to a statement by Echo Law. This follows a class action brought on behalf of affected customers. The agreement is subject to Court approval and does not admit liability. The airline had set aside $39 million for this matter in its half-year 2026 financial report. Echo Law also plans to bring similar claims for customers who held tickets for Jetstar flights cancelled due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. This news was first reported by AeroTime.
