Lithuania is investigating an explosion near the border with Belarus after a suspected drone crashed into a lake. The incident, which occurred on March 23, 2026, has raised concerns about the country’s air-defense capabilities. According to Deputy Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas, the object crossed into Lithuanian territory and crashed around 23 kilometers from the state border. Lithuanian Armed Forces say a suspected drone crashed in Lithuania -NATO territory- near the border with Belarus, after crossing into Lithuania near Varena district. The incident is the latest in a series of airspace security incidents in the region, which has prompted renewed calls for stronger NATO air defense measures.
