Italian Firm Eyes NATO Trials And €21 Billion In New Business
Leonardo is set to test its new Michelangelo air defense dome in Ukraine, potentially before the end of the year, with plans to move into NATO trials in 2027. The company’s CEO, Roberto Cingolani, announced the development during the firm’s industrial plan update, citing interest from 20 countries and forecasting €21 billion in new business opportunities by 2035. The air defense shield is designed to intercept and neutralize emerging threats, including ballistic and hypersonic threats, and low-altitude attacks. According to Breaking Defense, Leonardo plans to leverage Michelangelo from a sales perspective, offering options including software contracts and entire packages with other weapon systems.
