India's Second Commercial Airport to Serve Delhi-National Capital Region
India has opened the first phase of Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating the facility. The airport, developed through a public-private partnership, will handle 12 million passengers per year and is expected to be operational for 40 years. Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu has confirmed that commercial flights will begin in 45-60 days, with IndiGo serving as the launch carrier. The airport is part of a larger plan to develop the site into a major aviation hub, with a capacity of 70 million passengers per year by 2040. This marks a significant expansion of India’s air travel infrastructure, with the airport located along the Yamuna Expressway, roughly 75 kilometers from central Delhi.
