European Defense Agency Allocates €15.65M for VLEO Satellite Research
The European Defence Agency (EDA) has allocated €15.65 million to research the development of its first VLEO satellite concept, VLEO-DEF. The project, led by Spanish engineering firm Sener, aims to overcome technical challenges such as residual atmospheric drag. The 36-month program involves a consortium of 17 companies from five European countries. RELATED Swiss satellite maker SWISSto12 secures €73M in funding from ESA. This is the first European attempt to develop a military satellite from scratch designed for permanent VLEO operations.
