Embraer and Valkyrie Aero Expand A-29 Super Tucano's Counter-Drone Capabilities

A-29 Super Tucano Gets AI-Enabled Counter-Drone System

Embraer and Valkyrie Aero are expanding the A-29 Super Tucano’s counter-drone capabilities with an AI-enabled system designed to speed up detection-to-engagement decision-making in manned counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) missions. The Gunslinger AI suite will be integrated into the A-29’s existing sensors and weapons set to support the ‘find, fix, finish’ cycle against unmanned threats. The A-29 has a combat track record of over 60,000 flight hours, making it an ideal platform for manned C-UAS operations. The upgrade was announced on March 4, 2026, and Embraer has been repositioning the A-29 for counter-UAS missions since late 2025. The company has also delivered the first two A-29s to Uruguay in February 2026. This development was first reported by AeroTime.
