British Airways Returns to Melbourne with New Boeing 787-9 Service
British Airways has announced plans to resume daily flights between Melbourne Airport and London-Heathrow Airport, starting January 11, 2027. The airline will operate the route using a four-class Boeing 787-9, featuring First, Club World, World Traveller Plus, and World Traveller cabins. The new service marks British Airways’ return to Melbourne after 20 years, with the potential to generate AU$190 million annually for Victoria’s economy. The airline has also expanded its global network, adding new routes to Colombo, Sri Lanka, and increasing frequencies on several popular routes. The expansion represents a 9% growth in British Airways’ long-haul route network.
