Brazil Expands Fighter Fleet Amid Growing Regional Tensions
Brazil’s Defense Minister José Múcio Monteiro Filho announced plans to purchase an additional 20 Gripen E jets, which would increase the country’s fleet to 56 fighters. The move comes as Brazil seeks to maintain its air power sovereignty, with negotiations advancing to amend the existing Gripen agreement. The first fully Brazilian-assembled Gripen E was rolled out in March 2026, and final assembly of the single-seat Gripen E is carried out at Embraer’s facility in São Paulo.
