THAAD Transfer Plan Unveiled Amid Defense Industry Push
The US Army will assume control of the THAAD missile system from the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) in fiscal year ‘27, according to Lt. Gen. Frank Lozano. The transfer plan has been in the works for several years and is expected to occur as part of a memorandum of understanding and agreement. MDA currently manages THAAD development and procurement, but the Army will take on more responsibility for its operation. This move may impact production and effectiveness, but it is unclear whether this will be mitigated by the Army’s involvement.
